To achieve the best cleaning,
especially when attempting to remove hardened cosmetic residues, invest in a
Professional Ultrasonic Cleaner.
True ultrasonic cleaners vibrate the dirt molecules at such high frequencies that
they are literally blown apart. Only an ultrasonic can remove hardened oils and
dirt from the inner recesses of a setting. When using any cleaning solution, heating
it up hot to the touch in a microwave, will help dissolve the
dirt residues more rapidly. But do not heat any cleaning solution to boiling. In
between clean-ups, polish with a rouge chamois such as the
Sunshine Polishing Cloth.
An ultrasonic cleaner
should be used with caution. It can be used to clean Ruby, Sapphire, Diamond,
Amethyst, Citrine, Garnets, Topaz, Blue Zircon, CZ, man-made gems and unadorned
gold jewelry but it may damage soft gems like Emerald, Tourmaline, (some) Peridot,
Pearls, Coral, Lapis Lazuli, Turquoise, and any gem that has many inclusions.
Caring for Your Jewelry
1. The best way to clean your
gemstone jewelry is in a
bowl of hot water with a few drops of ordinary dish detergent.
Using an old toothbrush or other soft brush, scrub gently behind the stone where
dust and soap can collect. If the dirt has caked or hardened under the stone you
may have to soak the setting for awhile and then scrub again. Then rinse and dry with a soft cloth.
2. Remove your jewelry before
vigorous activities. All gemstones though usually hard, are brittle and
can chip if hit against a hard surface. So take precautions, such as removing
jewelry when doing heavy work. (Even a diamond can chip if hit the right way.)
Every day household items can ruin your gemstone jewelry. Don’t expose your gems
to the chemicals in cleaning products, hair care products, fragrances and
cosmetics.
3. When getting dressed, put
your jewelry on last.
Remove your jewelry before showering or cleaning. Soap can leave a
sparkle-dimming film. Similarly, do not wear jewelry when applying makeup and
face/body powder, as they can dull its shine.
Always apply makeup and hair
spray BEFORE you put your jewelry on. Wash and dry your hands before handling
your jewelry to avoid smudging the gemstones with the natural oils in your
fingers.
At the end of the day, take your
jewelry off first.
4. When traveling or
storing your jewelry, be careful to wrap your jewelry in soft cloth or gem
papers so the stones do not clank together with the possibility of chipping or
scratching the polished surface of your jewelry. Store the jewelry inside a
secure crushproof container when traveling. Have us check for
loose settings and professionally clean your jewelry as well. If your jewelry is ever
damaged, such as a prong bent, a ring kinked out of round, a lever hinge loose,
please return it to us for repair as per our
service guarantee. We are always happy to buff to a high sheen and
clean your jewelry as a courtesy to our customers, charging only for shipping.
