Lynn Buehler Member of the Michigan Guild of Artists and Artisans

Since 1971, both as a student and after graduating from the University of Wisconsin I have been designing and producing jewelry.  Beginning with 14K yellow and white gold or sterling silver sheet, wire, findings, and gemstones we use the hand-wrought metalworking techniques of fabrication. Production includes dapping, repousee, soldering, fusion, stone setting and limited casting. My husband and I use cutters, oxy-acetylene torches, forming hammers, anvils, grinders, flex shaft tools, polishing buffers, finishing tumblers as well as other specially designed tools that Carl has built to help construct our works. Our designs are tempered by consideration for our customer’s preferences for wearable jewelry in an assortment of gemstone colors that satisfy their appetite for diversity, quality, and affordability. I also am involved in the ballet, both as a dancer and serving as a trustee for the Ft. Lauderdale Ballet.

Since 1958, beginning at the age of ten on the road to becoming a craftsman, my Dad and Grandpa started me out helping them on the job sites of the family carpentry construction company. Dad got me busy with building homes and apartments, and in a woodworking shop. In 1982 I met my wife Lynn while making some display cases for her jewelry. It was not difficult to transition from woodworking techniques to metalworking. The same patience and desire for carefully cutting, forming, and finishing a piece to perfection applies to the work, regardless of the medium. My Dad taught me those values, as well as making the most efficient use of precious materials and time through developing jigs, patterns, and special tools to get the job done right, and at a competitive price. I learned the fine points of metalworking from my wife, fellow jewelers, and in jewelry workshops. As an honors graduate from Milwaukee's Marquette University, I am a Member of the Florida Society of Goldsmiths, a senior writer for Sunshine Artist magazine, have served on the board of directors of the Michigan Guild of Artists and Artisans, and with my Mom's good natured and generous encouragement have worked in support of the University Community Action Program, United Migrant Opportunity Service, and the American Near East Refugee Aid program.
